Acts 16:7

Context
16:7 When they came to 1  Mysia, 2  they attempted to go into Bithynia, 3  but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow 4  them to do this, 5

Acts 28:18

Context
28:18 When 6  they had heard my case, 7  they wanted to release me, 8  because there was no basis for a death sentence 9  against me.

1 tn BDAG 511 s.v. κατά B.1.b has “to Mysia” here.

2 sn Mysia was a province in northwest Asia Minor.

3 sn Bithynia was a province in northern Asia Minor northeast of Mysia.

4 tn Or “permit”; see BDAG 269 s.v. ἐάω 1.

5 tn The words “do this” are not in the Greek text, but are supplied for stylistic reasons, since English handles ellipses differently than Greek.

6 tn Grk “who when.” Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, the relative pronoun (“who”) has been replaced by the personal pronoun (“they”) and a new sentence begun at this point in the translation.

7 tn Or “had questioned me”; or “had examined me.” BDAG 66 s.v. ἀνακρίνω 2 states, “to conduct a judicial hearing, hear a case, question.”

8 sn They wanted to release me. See Acts 25:23-27.

9 tn Grk “no basis for death,” but in this context a sentence of death is clearly indicated.
