Acts 21:39

Context
21:39 Paul answered, 6  “I am a Jew 7  from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of an important city. 8  Please 9  allow me to speak to the people.”

1 tn BDAG 511 s.v. κατά B.1.b has “to Mysia” here.

2 sn Mysia was a province in northwest Asia Minor.

3 sn Bithynia was a province in northern Asia Minor northeast of Mysia.

4 tn Or “permit”; see BDAG 269 s.v. ἐάω 1.

5 tn The words “do this” are not in the Greek text, but are supplied for stylistic reasons, since English handles ellipses differently than Greek.

6 tn Grk “said.”

7 tn Grk “a Jewish man.”

8 tn Grk “of a not insignificant city.” The double negative, common in Greek, is awkward in English and has been replaced by a corresponding positive expression (BDAG 142 s.v. ἄσημος 1).

9 tn Grk “I beg you.”
