1 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the continuity with the preceding verse. Greek style often begins sentences or clauses with “and,” but English style does not.

2 tn Grk “and the lot fell on Matthias.”

3 tn Or “he was counted as one of the apostles along with the eleven.”

4 sn Fellowship refers here to close association involving mutual involvement and relationships.

5 tn Grk “prayers.” This word was translated as a collective singular in keeping with English style.

6 tn Grk “It” (or “They,” plural). The referent of the understood pronoun subject, the proceeds from the sales, of the verb διεδίδετο (diedideto) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

7 tn Grk “selling a field that belonged to him, brought” The participle πωλήσας (pwlhsa") has been translated as a finite verb due to requirements of contemporary English style.

8 tn Or “a farm.”

9 tn Normally a reference to actual coins (“currency”). See L&N 6.68.

10 tn BDAG 825 s.v. πλῆθος 2.b.γ has this translation for πλῆθος (plhqo").

11 tn These clauses are a good example of the contrastive μὲνδέ (mende) construction: Some “on the one hand” sided with the Jews, but some “on the other hand” sided with the apostles.
