2 Timothy 3:10--4:8

[2Ti 3:16] Bible Christian, A
A Bible Christian I will be,
For Christ has done so much for me;
Then how could I my Lord deny,
And on the words of men rely?Refrain
The Bible’s good enough for me,
The Bible’s truth my creed shall be;
From human creeds I turn away,
I stand for Christ alone today.Tho’ many follow human plans,
Believe the creeds set up by man;
No other creed have I today
Than Christ, who is the Truth, the Way.Refrain
The Word by inspiration giv’n,
The chart that points the way to Heav’n;
On this I dare and will depend,
And with my life its truth defend.Refrain
Believe in Christ, repent of sin,
Confess your faith, and peace you’ll win;
Then ’neath the water with Him go,
And you His peace and joy shall know.Refrain

[2Ti 3:16] Holy Word Of God, The
The Holy Word of God:
It is the Christian’s rule
To teach, correct, rebuke and train—
The Church’s priceless jewel.Let others rule by whim
Their lives from day to day.
God’s children have his Holy Word,
Which gladly they obey.God-breathed, yet penned by man,
Preserved by arms and art,
The Church has born it in her breast—
She dare not from it part!Nor could she ever do,
Else truth she could not know,
But set adrift in lies and myth
On wayward paths to go.Yet we’ve no cause to fear.
God’s promises are true.
The gates of hell will not prevail
O’er those His grace imbues.So let God’s true Church sing:
Those who His word do love—
Whom, as is written, shall be saved
To join His courts above.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:1] And Must I Be To Judgment Brought
And must I be to judgment brought,
And answer in that day,
For every vain and idle thought,
And every word I say?Yes, every secret of my heart,
Shall shortly be made known,
And I receive my just desert
For all that I have done.How careful, then ought I to live,
With what religious fear!
Who such a strict account must give
For my behavior here.Thou awful Judge of quick and dead,
The watchful power bestow;
So shall I to my ways take heed,
To all I speak or do.If now Thou standest at the door,
O let me feel Thee near,
And make my peace with God, before
I at Thy bar appear.My peace Thou hast already made,
While hanging on the tree;
My sins He on Thy body laid,
And punished them in Thee.Ah! might I, Lord, the virtue prove
Of Thine atoning blood,
And know Thou ever livest above,
My Advocate with God.Receive the answer of Thy prayer,
The sense of sin forgiven,
And follow Thee with loving care,
And go in peace to Heaven.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:1] Day Is Surely Drawing Near, The
The day is surely drawing near,
When God’s Son, the Anointed,
Shall with great majesty appear,
As Judge of all appointed.
All mirth and laughter then shall cease
When flames on flames will still increase,
As Scripture truly teacheth.A trumpet loud shall then resound,
And all the earth be shaken;
Then all who in their graves are found
Shall from their sleep awaken.
But all that live shall in that hour,
By the Almighty’s boundless power
Be changed at His commanding.A book is opened then to all,
A record truly telling
What each hath done, both great and small,
When he on earth was dwelling;
And every heart be clearly seen,
And all be known as they have been,
In thoughts and words and actions.Then woe to those who scorned the Lord,
And sought but carnal pleasures,
Who here despised His precious Word,
And loved their earthly treasures!
With shame and trembling they will stand,
And at the Judge’s stern command
To Satan be delivered.O Jesus, who my debt didst pay
And for my sin wast smitten
Within the Book of Life, oh, may
My name be also written!
I will not doubt; I trust in Thee,
From Satan Thou hast made me free
And from all condemnation.Therefore, my Intercessor be,
And for Thy blood and merit
Declare my name from judgment free,
With all who life inherit;
That I may see Thee face to face
With all thy saints in that blest place
Which Thou for us hast purchased.O Jesus Christ, do not delay,
O hasten our salvation!
We often tremble on our way
In fear and tribulation.
Then hear us when we cry to Thee;
Come, mighty Judge, and make us free
From every evil.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:1] Judgment Has Set, The
The judgment has set, the books have been opened;
How shall we stand in that great day,
When every thought, and word, and action,
God, the righteous Judge, shall weigh?Refrain
How shall we stand in that great day?
How shall we stand in that great day?
Shall we be found before Him wanting?
Or with our sins all washed away?The work is begun with those who are sleeping,
Soon will the living here be tried,
Out of the books of God’s remembrance,
His decision to abide.Refrain
O, how shall we stand that moment of searching,
When all our sins those books reveal?
When from that court, each case decided,
Shall be granted no appeal?Refrain

[2Ti 4:1] Mistful Are Our Waiting Eyes
Mistful are our waiting eyes,
As of them who saw Him rise
From that mountain to the skies.
Then the holy angels near
Gave them tidings of good cheer:
“Jesus shall again appear.”And we wait an angel’s cry,
Piercing earthward from the sky:
“Now, behold your Lord is nigh!”
Yet, who shall abide that day,
When the Judge with dread array
Comes for universal sway?Dreadly shall His summons sweep,
Heard by those who wake or sleep,
On the height or in the deep:
Heard by Life ’mid all its bloom,
Heard by Death in every tomb—
Terrible decree of doom.For the gathered souls who stand,
Waiting that supreme command,
He shall part on either hand.
To those souls of quick and dead,
“Come,” shall be the blessing said,
“Go,” shall be the cursing dread.Lord, dwell in us now, we pray,
That, in the dividing day,
We be not the cast away!
So shall we till Thou appear
Blend, in longing eye and ear,
Holy joy with holy fear!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:1] Thou Judge Of Quick And Dead
Thou Judge of quick and dead, before Whose bar severe,
With holy joy, or guilty dread, we all shall soon appear;
Our cautioned souls prepare for that tremendous day,
And fill us now with watchful care, and stir us up to pray.To pray, and wait the hour, that wondrous hour unknown,
When, robed in majesty and power, Thou shalt from Heaven come down
The immortal Son of Man, to judge the human race,
With all Thy Father’s dazzling train, with all Thy glorious grace.To damp our earthly joys, to increase our gracious fears,
For ever let the archangel’s voice be sounding in our ears;
The solemn midnight cry, “Ye dead, the Judge is come,
Arise, and meet Him in the sky, and meet your instant doom!”O may we thus be found obedient to His Word,
Attentive to the trumpet’s sound, and looking for our Lord!
O may we thus ensure a lot among the blest;
And watch a moment to secure an everlasting rest!Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:2] Shine Thou Upon Us, Lord
Shine Thou upon us, Lord, true Light of men, today,
And through the written Word Thy very self display,
That so from hearts which burn with gazing on Thy face
Thy little ones may learn the wonders of Thy grace.Breathe Thou upon us, Lord, Thy Spirit’s living flame,
That so with one accord our lips may tell Thy Name.
Give Thou the hearing ear, fix Thou the wandering thought,
That those we teach may hear the great things Thou hast wrought.Speak Thou for us, O Lord, in all we say of Thee;
According to Thy Word let all our teaching be,
That so Thy lambs may know their own true Shepherd’s voice,
Where’er He leads them go, and in His love rejoice.Live Thou within us, Lord, Thy mind and will be ours;
Be Thou beloved, adored, and served with all our powers,
That so our lives may teach Thy children what Thou art,
And plead, by more than speech, for Thee with every heart.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:5] Thou, Who Didst Call Thy Saints Of Old
Thou, who didst call Thy saints of old
Thy chosen flock to teach,
Who mad’st the fearful hearted bold,
And quick the slow of speech;
Still Thou dost ask whom Thou shalt send
And who will go for Thee,
To feed Thy lambs, Thy sheep to tend;
“Lord, here am I; send me.”O send us—e’en as Thou, O Lord,
Wast by the Father sent—
To speak Thine own absolving word
To sinners penitent;
To wash Thy chosen in the flood
Whereby new birth is given;
To minister the sacred Food,
The Bread of Life from Heav’n.And Thou, who didst by prophets deign
To speak the will Divine,
That we may never speak in vain,
May all our words be Thine;
Oh, teach us, Holy Ghost, that we
Thine heritage may teach;
Bid us to prophesy for Thee,
And in Thy power to preach.So may we, though unworthy still,
Most Holy Trinity,
Thy prophets, pastors, priests, fulfill
Our sacred ministry;
That, when beside the crystal sea
We lay our office down,
The souls that we have trained for Thee
May be our joy and crown.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:5] Work Must Go On, The
A glad message rings through the world today,
It echoes through the countries afar,
That the rising Sun, with celestial ray,
Scatters healing where’er men are.Refrain
The good work must go on and on,
Till the world for the Lord is won,
Greater triumphs must be gained,
Greater heights in love attained,
Till the glorious day of God shall dawn.There are many souls that were dark as night,
All shadowed by the blackness of sin,
That are glowing now with immortal light,
Since the glory of God shone in.Refrain
There are hungry hearts that were starved for bread,
But Jesus has supplied every need;
For on Him, the Bread of Life, they have fed
Till their spirits are glad indeed.Refrain
And the deaf shall hear, and the blind eyes see;
The Word of God shall quicken and glow;
Christ the King of earth and Heaven still shall be
Till His glory each heart shall know.Refrain

[2Ti 4:7] Breast The Wave, Christian
Breast the wave, Christian, when it is strongest,
Watch for day, Christian, when the night’s longest;
Onward and upward still be thine endeavor;
The rest that remaineth will be forever.Fight the fight, Christian, Jesus is o’er thee;
Run the race, Christian, Heav’n is before thee;
He Who hath promised faltereth never;
The love of eternity flows on forever.Lift thine eye, Christian, just as it closeth;
Raise thy heart, Christian, ere it reposeth;
Thee from the love of Christ nothing shall sever;
And when all thy work is done, praise Him forever.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:7] Come, Let Us Anew Our Journey Pursue
Come, let us anew our journey pursue,
Roll round with the year,
And never stand still till the Master appear,
His adorable will let us gladly fulfill,
And our talents improve,
By the patience of hope, and the labor of love,
By the patience of hope, and the labor of love.Our life is a dream; our time, as a stream,
Glides swiftly away,
And the fugitive moment refuses to stay,
The arrow is flown, the moment is gone;
The millennial year
Rushes on to our view, and eternity’s here,
Rushes on to our view, and eternity’s here.O that each in the day of His coming may say,
“I have fought my way through;
I have finished the work Thou didst give me to do!”
O that each from his Lord may receive the glad word,
“Well and faithfully done!
Enter into My joy, and sit down on My throne!”
“Enter into My joy, and sit down on My throne!”Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:7] Falter Not
Falter not nor look behind thee,
Cast thy every weight aside;
Haste to win the prize before thee,
Trusting Him, thy precious Guide.Refrain
Falter not, nor look behind thee,
Still thy course with joy pursue;
Persevere, for thou must conquer,
With the cross of Christ in view.Falter not nor look behind thee,
Firm and fearless take thy place;
Robe and crown and palm are waiting
For the victors in the race.Refrain
Falter not nor look behind thee,
Lest thy labor prove in vain;
Run with patience, and remember
Thou hast much to lose or gain.Refrain
Falter not nor look behind thee,
Lo, the prize is just in sight;
One more struggle, meet it bravely,
Speed thee on with all thy might.Refrain
Falter not nor look behind thee,
What of all thy trials past,
If by grace through faith in Jesus,
Thine the victor’s crown at last?Refrain

[2Ti 4:7] I The Good Fight Have Fought
“I the good fight have fought,”
O when shall I declare?
The victory by my Savior got,
I long with Paul to share.O may I triumph so,
When all my warfare’s past;
And dying, find my latest foe
Under my feet at last!This blessèd word be mine,
Just as the port is gained,
“Kept by the power of grace divine,
I have the faith maintained.”The apostles of my Lord,
To whom it first was given,
They could not speak a greater word,
Nor all the saints in Heaven.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:7] Oft In Sorrow, Oft In Woe
Oft in sorrow, oft in woe,
Onward, Christian, onward go:
Fight the fight, maintain the strife
Strengthened with the Bread of life.Onward Christians, onward go,
Join the war, and face the foe;
Faint not: Much does yet remain,
Dreary is the long campaign.Shrink not, Christians will ye yield?
Will ye quit the painful field?
Will ye flee in danger’s hour?
Know ye not your Captain’s pow’r?Let your drooping hearts be glad:
March in heavenly armor clad:
Fight, nor think the battle long,
Victory soon shall be your song.Let not sorrow dim your eye,
Soon shall every tear be dry;
Let not fears your course impede,
Great your strength, if great your need.Onward then in battle move,
More than conquerors ye shall prove;
Though opposed by many a foe,
Christian soldiers onward go.Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:7] Promoted To Glory
Summoned home, the call has sounded,
Bidding a soldier his warfare cease;
And the song of angels resounded,
Welcomes a warrior to eternal peace.
Praise the Lord! from earthly struggles
A comrade has found release.
Death has lost its sting, the grave its victory;
Conflicts and dangers are over;
See him honored in the throne of glory,
Crowned by the hand of Jehovah!Refrain
Strife and sorrow over,
The Lord’s true faithful soldier
Has been called to go from the ranks below,
To the conq’ring host above.Once the sword, but now the scepter,
Once the fight, now the rest and fame,
Broken every earthly fetter,
Now the glory for the cross and shame;
Once the loss of all for Jesus,
But now the eternal gain.
Trials and sorrow here have found their meaning
Mysteries their explanation;
Safe, forever in the sunlight gleaming
Of His eternal salvation.Refrain

[2Ti 4:7] Why Should Our Tears In Sorrow Flow
Why should our tears in sorrow flow
When God recalls His own;
And bids them leave a world of woe
For an immortal crown?Is not e’en death a gain to those
Whose life to God was given?
Gladly to earth their eyes they close
To open them in Heaven.Their toils are past, their work is done,
And they are fully blest;
They fought the fight, the victory won,
And entered into rest.Then let our sorrows cease to flow;
God has recalled His own;
But let our hearts, in every woe,
Still say, “Thy will be done.”Play source: Cyberhymnal -
[2Ti 4:8] I Love His Appearing
There was One came to die in the sinner’s stead,
Who the fullness of grace brought to view;
He is coming again, Judge of quick and dead,
And I love His appearing, don’t you?Refrain
I love His appearing, I do, (don’t you?)
The glad day is nearing, ’tis true;
He will take us on high
Where the saints cannot die;
I love His appearing, don’t you?Then the children of light who in Jesus sleep,
Will awake, by His word formed anew;
O this hope in my heart groweth strong and deep,
And I long to be like Him, don’t you?Refrain
All creation has groaned in the thralls of pain,
While the faithful, the valiant and true;
Cry, “O merciful Christ! take Thy pow’r and reign,”
For they look for His kingdom, don’t you?Refrain
Then the heavens shall melt at their Maker’s voice,
And the earth shall be fashioned anew;
At the glorious tho’t how the saints rejoice!
For they know He is coming, don’t you?Refrain

[2Ti 4:8] When Thou, My Righteous Judge, Shall Come
When Thou, my righteous Judge shall come
To take Thy ransomed people home,
Shall I among them stand?
Shall such a worthless worm as I,
Who sometimes am afraid to die,
Be found at Thy right hand?I love to meet Thy people now,
Before Thy gracious feet to bow,
Though vilest of them all:
But can I bear the piercing thought?
What if my name should be left out,
When Thou for them shalt call?O Lord, prevent it by Thy grace;
Be Thou my only hiding place,
In this, th’accepted day;
Thy pardoning voice oh let me hear,
To still my unbelieving fear,
Nor let me fall, I pray.Among Thy saints let me be found
Whene’er th’archangel’s trump shall sound,
To see Thy smiling face;
Then loudest of the crowd I’ll sing,
While heaven’s resounding mansions ring,
With shouts of sovereign grace.Play source: Cyberhymnal
