2 Samuel 5:2

Context
5:2 In the past, when Saul was our king, you were the real leader in Israel. 1  The Lord said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel; you will rule over Israel.’”

2 Samuel 7:9

Context
7:9 I was with you wherever you went, and I defeated 2  all your enemies before you. Now I will make you as famous as the great men of the earth. 3

2 Samuel 22:37

Context

22:37 You widen my path; 4

my feet 5  do not slip.

1 tn Heb “you were the one leading out and the one leading in Israel.”

2 tn Heb “cut off.”

3 tn Heb “and I will make for you a great name like the name of the great ones who are in the earth.”

4 tn Heb “step.” “Step” probably refers metonymically to the path upon which the psalmist walks. Another option is to translate, “you widen my stride.” This would suggest that God gives him the capacity to run quickly.

5 tn Heb “lower legs.” On the meaning of the Hebrew noun, which occurs only here, see H. R. Cohen, Biblical Hapax Legomena (SBLDS), 112. A cognate Akkadian noun means “lower leg.”
