2 Samuel 24:10

24:10 David felt guilty 8  after he had numbered the army. David said to the Lord, “I have sinned greatly by doing this! Now, O Lord, please remove the guilt of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly.”

2 tn See HALOT 146 s.v. II בער. Some derive the verb from a homonym meaning “to burn; to consume.”

3 tn Or “for.”

4 tn Or “will.” The imperfect verbal form can have either an indicative or modal nuance. The use of “perhaps” in v. 15b suggests the latter here.

5 tn Heb “in order to deliver his maid.”

6 tn Heb “destroy.”

7 tn Heb “from the inheritance of God.” The expression refers to the property that was granted to her family line in the division of the land authorized by God.

8 tn Heb “and the heart of David struck him.”
