3:23 When Joab and all the army that was with him arrived, Joab was told: “Abner the son of Ner came to the king; he sent him away, and he left in peace!”

3:24 So Joab went to the king and said, “What have you done? Abner 1  has come to you! Why would you send him away? Now he’s gone on his way! 2

10:4 So Hanun seized David’s servants and shaved off half of each one’s beard. He cut the lower part of their robes off so that their buttocks were exposed, 3  and then sent them away.

2 tc The LXX adds “in peace.”

3 tn Heb “and he cut their robes in the middle unto their buttocks.”

4 tn Heb “No, because this great evil is [worse] than the other which you did with me, by sending me away.” Perhaps the broken syntax reflects her hysteria and outrage.

5 tn Heb “he devises plans for the one banished from him not to be banished.”
