2 Samuel 11:21

11:21 Who struck down Abimelech the son of Jerub-Besheth? Didn’t a woman throw an upper millstone 1  down on him from the wall so that he died in Thebez? Why did you go so close to the wall?’ just say to him, ‘Your servant Uriah the Hittite is also dead.’”

2 Samuel 14:19

14:19 The king said, “Did Joab put you up to all of this?” 2  The woman answered, “As surely as you live, my lord the king, there is no deviation to the right or to the left from all that my lord the king has said. For your servant Joab gave me instructions. He has put all these words in your servant’s mouth.

2 Samuel 20:21-22

Context
20:21 That’s not the way things are. There is a man from the hill country of Ephraim named Sheba son of Bicri. He has rebelled 3  against King David. Give me just this one man, and I will leave the city.” The woman said to Joab, “This very minute 4  his head will be thrown over the wall to you!”

20:22 Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice and they cut off Sheba’s head and threw it out to Joab. Joab 5  blew the trumpet, and his men 6  dispersed from the city, each going to his own home. 7  Joab returned to the king in Jerusalem.

1 sn The upper millstone (Heb “millstone of riding”) refers to the heavy circular stone that was commonly rolled over a circular base in order to crush and grind such things as olives.

2 tn Heb “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?”

3 tn Heb “lifted his hand.”

4 tn Heb “Look!”

5 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Joab) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
