2 Samuel 11:11

Context
11:11 Uriah replied to David, “The ark and Israel and Judah reside in temporary shelters, and my lord Joab and my lord’s soldiers are camping in the open field. Should I go to my house to eat and drink and have marital relations 1  with my wife? As surely as you are alive, 2  I will not do this thing!”

2 Samuel 12:18

Context

12:18 On the seventh day the child died. But the servants of David were afraid to inform him that the child had died, for they said, “While the child was still alive he would not listen to us 3  when we spoke to him. How can we tell him that the child is dead? He will do himself harm!” 4

2 Samuel 17:12

Context
17:12 We will come against him wherever he happens to be found. We will descend on him like the dew falls on the ground. Neither he nor any of the men who are with him will be spared alive – not one of them!

2 Samuel 19:6

Context
19:6 You seem to love your enemies and hate your friends! For you have as much as declared today that leaders and servants don’t matter to you. I realize now 5  that if 6  Absalom were alive and all of us were dead today, 7  it would be all right with you.

1 tn Heb “and lay.”

2 tn Heb “as you live and as your soul lives.”

3 tn Heb “to our voice.”

4 tn Heb “he will do harm.” The object is not stated in the Hebrew text. The statement may be intentionally vague, meaning that he might harm himself or them!

5 tn Heb “today.”

6 tc The translation follows the Qere, 4QSama, and many medieval Hebrew mss in reading לוּ (lu, “if”) rather than MT לֹא (lo’, “not”).

7 tc The Lucianic Greek recension and Syriac Peshitta lack “today.”
