2 Kings 17:21

1 tn The words “when she hit the ground” are added for stylistic reasons.

2 tn Heb “and he trampled her.”

3 tn Heb “he walked in the way of.”

4 sn This may refer to child sacrifice, though some interpret it as a less drastic cultic practice. For discussion see M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 266-67.

5 tn Heb “like the abominable practices of the nations.”

6 tn Heb “and they made Jeroboam son of Nebat king.”

7 tc The consonantal text (Kethib) assumes the verb is נָדָא (nada’), an alternate form of נָדָה (nadah), “push away.” The marginal reading (Qere) assumes the verb נָדָח (nadakh), “drive away.”

8 tn Heb “a great sin.”
