2 Kings 6:22

Context

2 Kings 6:32

Context

6:32 Now Elisha was sitting in his house with the community leaders. 2  The king 3  sent a messenger on ahead, but before he arrived, 4  Elisha 5  said to the leaders, 6  “Do you realize this assassin intends to cut off my head?” 7  Look, when the messenger arrives, shut the door and lean against it. His master will certainly be right behind him.” 8

2 Kings 7:2

7:2 An officer who was the king’s right-hand man 9  responded to the prophet, 10  “Look, even if the Lord made it rain by opening holes in the sky, could this happen so soon?” 11  Elisha 12  said, “Look, you will see it happen with your own eyes, but you will not eat any of the food!” 13

2 Kings 7:9

7:9 Then they said to one another, “It’s not right what we’re doing! This is a day to celebrate, but we haven’t told anyone. 14  If we wait until dawn, 15  we’ll be punished. 16  So come on, let’s go and inform the royal palace.”

2 Kings 7:17

Context

7:17 Now the king had placed the officer who was his right-hand man 17  at the city gate. When the people rushed out, they trampled him to death in the gate. 18  This fulfilled the prophet’s word which he had spoken when the king tried to arrest him. 19

2 Kings 9:11

Context

9:11 When Jehu rejoined 20  his master’s servants, they 21  asked him, “Is everything all right? 22  Why did this madman visit you?” He replied, “Ah, it’s not important. You know what kind of man he is and the kinds of things he says.” 23

2 Kings 9:26

2 Kings 12:9

12:9 Jehoiada the priest took a chest and drilled a hole in its lid. He placed it on the right side of the altar near the entrance of 26  the Lord’s temple. The priests who guarded the entrance would put into it all the silver brought to the Lord’s temple.

2 Kings 23:5

Context
23:5 He eliminated 27  the pagan priests whom the kings of Judah had appointed to offer sacrifices 28  on the high places in the cities of Judah and in the area right around Jerusalem. (They offered sacrifices 29  to Baal, the sun god, the moon god, the constellations, and all the stars in the sky.)

1 tn Heb “Are [they] ones you captured with your sword or your bow (that) you can strike (them) down?”

2 tn Heb “and the elders were sitting with him.”

3 tn Heb “he”; the referent (the king) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

4 tn Heb “sent a man from before him, before the messenger came to him.”

10 tn Heb “man of God.”

11 tn Heb “the Lord was making holes in the sky, could this thing be?” Opening holes in the sky would allow the waters stored up there to pour to the earth and assure a good crop. But, the officer argues, even if this were to happen, it would take a long time to grow and harvest the crop.

12 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Elisha) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

13 tn Heb “you will not eat from there.”

14 tn Heb “this day is a day of good news and we are keeping silent.”

21 tc The MT has the singular, “he said,” but many witnesses correctly read the plural.

22 tn Heb “Is there peace?”

23 tn Heb “He said, ‘You, you know the man and his thoughts.’” Jehu tries to deflect their question by reminding them that the man is an eccentric individual who says strange things. His reply suggests that the man said nothing of importance. The translation seeks to bring out the tone and intent of Jehu’s reply.

24 tn Heb “and I will repay you in this plot of land.”

25 tn Heb “according to the word of the Lord.”

26 tn Heb “on the right side of the altar as a man enters.”
