Context6:22 He replied, “Do not strike them down! You did not capture them with your sword or bow, so what gives you the right to strike them down? 1 Give them some food and water, so they can eat and drink and then go back to their master.”
2 Kings 17:26
Context17:26 The king of Assyria was told, 2 “The nations whom you deported and settled in the cities of Samaria do not know the requirements of the God of the land, so he has sent lions among them. They are killing the people 3 because they do not know the requirements of the God of the land.”
2 Kings 19:32
Context19:32 So this is what the Lord says about the king of Assyria:
“He will not enter this city,
nor will he shoot an arrow here. 4
He will not attack it with his shield-carrying warriors, 5
nor will he build siege works against it.
1 tn Heb “Are [they] ones you captured with your sword or your bow (that) you can strike (them) down?”
2 tn Heb “and they said to the king of Assyria, saying.” The plural subject of the verb is indefinite.
3 tn Heb “Look they are killing them.”
4 tn Heb “there.”
5 tn Heb “[with] a shield.” By metonymy the “shield” stands for the soldier who carries it.
