Elisha Gives Life to a Boy

4:8 One day Elisha traveled to Shunem, where a prominent 1  woman lived. She insisted that he stop for a meal. 2  So whenever he was passing through, he would stop in there for a meal. 3 

2 Kings 4:25

4:25 So she went to visit 4  the prophet at Mount Carmel. When he 5  saw her at a distance, he said to his servant Gehazi, “Look, it’s the Shunammite woman.

2 Kings 6:28

6:28 Then the king asked her, “What’s your problem?” She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Hand over your son; we’ll eat him today and then eat my son tomorrow.’

2 Kings 6:30

6:30 When the king heard what the woman said, he tore his clothes. As he was passing by on the wall, the people could see he was wearing sackcloth under his clothes. 6 

2 Kings 9:34

9:34 He went inside and had a meal. 7  Then he said, “Dispose of this accursed woman’s corpse. Bury her, for after all, she was a king’s daughter.” 8 

1 tn Heb “great,” perhaps “wealthy.”

2 tn Or “she urged him to eat some food.”

3 tn Or “he would turn aside there to eat some food.”

4 tn Heb “went and came.”

5 tn Heb “the man of God.” The phrase has been replaced by the relative pronoun “he” in the translation for stylistic reasons.

6 tn Heb “the people saw, and look, [there was] sackcloth against his skin underneath.”

7 tn Heb “and he went and ate and drank.”

8 tn Heb “Attend to this accursed woman and bury her for she was the daughter of a king.”
