2 Kings 3:14

Context
3:14 Elisha said, “As certainly as the Lord who rules over all 1  lives (whom I serve), 2  if I did not respect King Jehoshaphat of Judah, 3  I would not pay attention to you or acknowledge you. 4

2 Kings 9:17

Context

9:17 Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel and saw Jehu’s troops approaching. 5  He said, “I see troops!” 6  Jehoram ordered, 7  “Send a rider out to meet them and have him ask, ‘Is everything all right?’” 8

1 tn Traditionally “the Lord of hosts.”

2 tn Heb “before whom I stand.”

3 tn Heb “if I did not lift up the face of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah.”

4 tn Heb “I would not look at you or see you.”

5 tn Heb “the quantity [of the men] of Jehu, when he approached.” Elsewhere שִׁפְעַה (shifah), “quantity,” is used of a quantity of camels (Isa 60:6) or horses (Ezek 26:10) and of an abundance of water (Job 22:11; 38:34).

6 tn The term שִׁפְעַת (shifat) appears to be a construct form of the noun, but no genitive follows.

7 tn Heb “said.”

8 tn Heb “Get a rider and send [him] to meet him and let him ask, ‘Is there peace?’”
