10:31 But Jehu did not carefully and wholeheartedly obey the law of the Lord God of Israel. 1  He did not repudiate the sins which Jeroboam had encouraged Israel to commit. 2 

2 Kings 17:21

Context
17:21 He tore Israel away from David’s dynasty, and Jeroboam son of Nebat became their king. 3  Jeroboam drove Israel away 4  from the Lord and encouraged them to commit a serious sin. 5 

1 tn Heb “But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart.”

2 tn Heb “He did not turn aside from the sins of Jeroboam which he caused Israel to commit.”

3 tn Heb “and they made Jeroboam son of Nebat king.”

4 tc The consonantal text (Kethib) assumes the verb is נָדָא (nada’), an alternate form of נָדָה (nadah), “push away.” The marginal reading (Qere) assumes the verb נָדָח (nadakh), “drive away.”

5 tn Heb “a great sin.”
