2 Corinthians 7:7

Context
7:7 We were encouraged 1  not only by his arrival, but also by the encouragement 2  you gave 3  him, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, 4  your deep concern 5  for me, so that I rejoiced more than ever.

2 Corinthians 7:13

Context
7:13 Therefore we have been encouraged. And in addition to our own encouragement, we rejoiced even more at the joy of Titus, because all of you have refreshed his spirit. 6

2 Corinthians 8:22

Context
8:22 And we are sending 7  with them our brother whom we have tested many times and found eager in many matters, but who now is much more eager than ever because of the great confidence he has in you.

2 Corinthians 10:8

Context
10:8 For if I boast somewhat more about our authority that the Lord gave us 8  for building you up and not for tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of doing so. 9

1 tn Because of the length and complexity of this Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation by supplying the phrase “We were encouraged.”

2 tn Or “comfort,” “consolation.”

3 tn Grk “by the encouragement with which he was encouraged by you.” The passive construction was translated as an active one in keeping with contemporary English style, and the repeated word “encouraged” was replaced in the translation by “gave” to avoid redundancy in the translation.

4 tn Or “your grieving,” “your deep sorrow.”

5 tn Or “your zeal.”

6 tn Or “all of you have put his mind at ease.”

7 tn This verb has been translated as an epistolary aorist.

8 tn The word “us” is not in the Greek text but is supplied. Indirect objects in Greek were often omitted when clear from the context, and must be supplied for the modern English reader.

9 tn Grk “I will not be put to shame,” “I will not be ashamed.” The words “of doing so” are supplied to clarify for the reader that Paul will not be ashamed of boasting somewhat more about the authority the Lord gave him (beginning of v. 8).
