2 Corinthians 5:16

Context
5:16 So then from now on we acknowledge 1  no one from an outward human point of view. 2  Even though we have known Christ from such a human point of view, 3  now we do not know him in that way any longer.

2 Corinthians 10:7

Context
10:7 You are looking at outward appearances. 4  If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should reflect on this again: Just as he himself belongs to Christ, so too do we.

2 Corinthians 5:12

Context
5:12 We are not trying to commend 5  ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to be proud of us, 6  so that you may be able to answer those who take pride 7  in outward appearance 8  and not in what is in the heart.

1 tn Grk “we know.”

2 tn Grk “no one according to the flesh.”

3 tn Grk “we have known Christ according to the flesh.”

4 tn The phrase is close to a recognized idiom for judging based on outward appearances (L&N 30.120). Some translators see a distinction, however, and translate 2 Cor 10:7a as “Look at what is in front of your eyes,” that is, the obvious facts of the case (so NRSV).

5 tn The present tense of συνιστάνομεν (sunistanomen) has been translated as a conative present.

6 tn Or “to boast about us.”

7 tn Or “who boast.”

8 tn Or “in what is seen.”
