12:3 And I know that this man (whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows)

1 tn Grk “than the things.”

2 tn Grk “to the end,” a Greek idiom for “fully,” “totally,” “completely.”

3 tn Or “because you stand firm in the faith.”

4 tn Or “do not lose heart.”

5 tn Grk “our outer man.”

6 tn Grk “our inner [man].”

7 tn The word “anyone” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. Direct objects in Greek were often omitted when clear from the context.

8 tn Other interpretations of the first part of 2 Cor 6:3 are possible. The phrase could also mean, “not putting an obstacle in the way of anyone” (L&N 22.14), or “giving no one in anything a cause to sin” (L&N 88.307).

9 tn Grk “and now also complete the doing.”

10 tn Grk “just as the eagerness to want [it].”

11 tn Grk “so also it might be completed.” The passive construction was converted to an active one in the translation in keeping with contemporary English style.

12 tn Grk “completed from what you have.”

13 tn Grk “with this confidence of boasting.” The genitive καυχήσεως (kauchsew") has been translated as an attributed genitive (the noun in the genitive gives an attribute of the noun modified).

14 tn Or “say with the Lord’s authority.”
