2 Chronicles 9:8

Context
9:8 May the Lord your God be praised because he favored 1  you by placing you on his throne as the one ruling on his behalf! 2  Because of your God’s love for Israel and his lasting commitment to them, 3  he made you king over them so you could make just and right decisions.” 4

2 Chronicles 28:23

Context
28:23 He offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus whom he thought had defeated him. 5  He reasoned, 6  “Since the gods of the kings of Damascus helped them, I will sacrifice to them so they will help me.” But they caused him and all Israel to stumble.

2 Chronicles 31:6

Context
31:6 The Israelites and people of Judah 7  who lived in the cities of Judah also contributed a tenth of their cattle and sheep, as well as a tenth of the holy items consecrated to the Lord their God. They brought them and placed them in many heaps. 8

1 tn Or “delighted in.”

2 tn Heb “as king for the Lord your God.”

3 tn Heb “to make him stand permanently.”

4 tn Heb “to do justice and righteousness.”

5 tn Heb “the gods of Damascus, the ones who had defeated him.” The words “he thought” are supplied in the translation for clarification. The perspective is that of Ahaz, not the narrator! Another option is that “the kings” has been accidentally omitted after “gods of.” See v. 23b.

6 tn Heb “said.”

7 tn Heb “and the sons of Israel and Judah.”

8 tn Heb “heaps, heaps.” Repetition of the noun draws attention to the large number of heaps.
