Context7:21 As for this temple, which was once majestic, 1 everyone who passes by it will be shocked and say, ‘Why did the Lord do this to this land and this temple?’ 7:22 Others will then answer, 2 ‘Because they abandoned the Lord God of their ancestors, 3 who led them out of Egypt. They embraced other gods whom they worshiped and served. 4 That is why he brought all this disaster down on them.’”

Context25:15 The Lord was angry at Amaziah and sent a prophet to him, who said, “Why are you following 5 these gods 6 that could not deliver their own people from your power?” 7
2 Chronicles 32:4
Context32:4 A large number of people gathered together and stopped up all the springs and the stream that flowed through the district. 8 They reasoned, 9 “Why should the kings of Assyria come and find plenty of water?”
1 tn Heb “and this house which was high/elevated.” The statement makes little sense in this context, which predicts the desolation that judgment will bring. Some treat the clause as concessive, “Even though this temple is lofty [now].” Others, following the lead of several ancient versions, emend the text to, “this temple will become a heap of ruins.”
2 tn Heb “and they will say.”
3 tn Heb “fathers.”
4 tn Heb “and they took hold of other gods and bowed down to them and served them.”
5 tn Heb “seeking,” perhaps in the sense of “consulting [an oracle from].”
6 tn Heb “the gods of the people.”

8 tn Heb “and they closed up all the springs and the stream that flows in the midst of the land.” Here אָרֶץ (’arets, “land”) does not refer to the entire land, but to a smaller region like a district.
