2 Chronicles 6:28

Context

6:28 “The time will come when the land suffers from a famine, a plague, blight, and disease, or a locust 1  invasion, or when their enemy lays siege to the cities of the land, 2  or when some other type of plague or epidemic occurs.

2 Chronicles 15:8

Context

15:8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he was encouraged. 3  He removed the detestable idols from the entire land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had seized in the Ephraimite hill country. He repaired the altar of the Lord in front of the porch of the Lord’s temple. 4

2 Chronicles 24:5

Context
24:5 He assembled the priests and Levites and ordered them, “Go out to the cities of Judah and collect the annual quota of silver from all Israel for repairs on the temple of your God. Be quick about it!” But the Levites delayed.

2 Chronicles 31:6

Context
31:6 The Israelites and people of Judah 5  who lived in the cities of Judah also contributed a tenth of their cattle and sheep, as well as a tenth of the holy items consecrated to the Lord their God. They brought them and placed them in many heaps. 6

2 Chronicles 33:14

Context

33:14 After this Manasseh 7  built up the outer wall of the City of David 8  on the west side of the Gihon in the valley to the entrance of the Fish Gate and all around the terrace; he made it much higher. He placed army officers in all the fortified cities in Judah.

1 tn Actually two Hebrew words appear here, both of which are usually (but not always) taken as referring to locusts. Perhaps different stages of growth or different varieties are in view, but this is uncertain. NEB has “locusts new-sloughed or fully grown”; NASB has “locust or grasshopper”; NIV has “locusts or grasshoppers”; NRSV has “locust, or caterpillar.”

2 tn Heb “in the land, his gates.”

3 tn Heb “strengthened himself.”

4 tn Heb “the porch of the Lord.”

5 tn Heb “and the sons of Israel and Judah.”

6 tn Heb “heaps, heaps.” Repetition of the noun draws attention to the large number of heaps.

7 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Manasseh) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

8 sn The phrase the City of David refers here to the fortress of Zion in Jerusalem, not to Bethlehem. See 2 Sam 5:7.
