• [2Ch 13:12] The Old Ship Of Zion

  I was drifting away on life’s pitiless sea, And the angry waves threatened my ruin to be, When away at my side, there I dimly descried, A stately old vessel, and loudly I cried: “Ship ahoy! Ship ahoy!” And loudly I cried: “Ship ahoy!” ’Twas the “old ship of Zion,” thus sailing along, All aboard her seemed joyous, I heard their sweet song; And the Captain’s kind ear, ever ready to hear, Caught my wail of distress, as I cried out in fear: “Ship ahoy! Ship ahoy!” As I cried out in fear: “Ship ahoy!” The good Captain commanded a boat to be low’red, And with tender compassion He took me on board; And I’m happy today, all my sins washed away In the blood of my Savior, and now I can say: “Bless the Lord! Bless the Lord!” From my soul I can say: “Bless the Lord!” O soul, sinking down ’neath sin’s merciless wave, The strong arm of our Captain is mighty to save; Then trust Him today, no longer delay, Board the old ship of Zion, and shout on your way: “Jesus saves! Jesus saves!” Shout and sing on your way: “Jesus saves!”

• [2Ch 20:6] God Of Our Fathers

  God of our fathers, whose almighty hand Leads forth in beauty all the starry band Of shining worlds in splendor through the skies Our grateful songs before Thy throne arise. Thy love divine hath led us in the past, In this free land by Thee our lot is cast, Be Thou our Ruler, Guardian, Guide and Stay, Thy Word our law, Thy paths our chosen way. From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence, Be Thy strong arm our ever sure defense; Thy true religion in our hearts increase, Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace. Refresh Thy people on their toilsome way, Lead us from night to never ending day; Fill all our lives with love and grace divine, And glory, laud, and praise be ever Thine.

  God of our fathers, known of old, Lord of our far flung battle line, Beneath whose awful hand we hold Dominion over palm and pine— Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget! The tumult and the shouting dies; The captains and the kings depart: Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice, An humble and a contrite heart. Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget! Far called, our navies melt away; On dune and headland sinks the fire: Lo, all our pomp of yesterday Is one with Nineveh and Tyre! Judge of the Nations, spare us yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget! If, drunk with sight of power, we loose Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe, Such boastings as the Gentiles use, Or lesser breeds without the Law— Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget—lest we forget! For heathen heart that puts her trust In reeking tube and iron shard, All valiant dust that builds on dust, And guarding, calls not Thee to guard, For frantic boast and foolish word— Thy mercy on Thy people, Lord!

• [2Ch 20:6] God Of Our Fathers, The Strength Of Our People

  God of our fathers, the strength of our people and nation, Gladly we come to Thy presence with true adoration, Seeking Thy face, trusting Thy love and Thy grace, Thou art our health and salvation. God of all mercy, for pardon and peace we implore Thee, Humbly confessing our faults and our failures before Thee. Children of men, falling and rising again, Still give us grace to adore Thee. God of the poor and the weak, to our prayer now attending, Teach us to follow the Master of all men in blending Worship with deed, praises with service to need, All men in His Name befriending. God of all peoples, let justice and peace like a river Flow through the world until all, in one common endeavor, Build among men brotherhood’s kingdom, and then Thine be the glory forever.

  Lord of power, Lord of might; God and Father of us all; Lord of day, and Lord of night, Listen to our solemn call: Listen, whilst to Thee we raise Songs of prayer, and songs of praise. Light, and love, and life are Thine, Great Creator of all good; Fill our souls with light divine: Give us with our daily food Blessings from Thy heavenly store, Blessings rich forevermore. Graft within our heart of hearts Love undying for Thy Name; Bid us ere the day departs Spread afar our Maker’s fame; Young and old together bless, Clothe our souls with righteousness. Full of years and full of peace, May our life on earth be blest; When our trials here shall cease, And at last we sink to rest, Fountain of eternal love, Call us to our home above.

  Our fathers’ God, to Thee we raise, In cheerful song, our grateful praise; From shore to shore the anthems rise; Accept a nation’s sacrifice. Incline our hearts with godly fear To seek Thy face, Thy Word revere; Cause Thou all wrongs, all strife to cease, And lead us in the paths of peace. Here may the weak a welcome find, And wealth increase with lowly mind; A refuge, still for all oppressed, O be our land forever blest! Thy wisdom, Lord, Thy guidance lend, Where’er our widening bounds extend; Inspire our wills to speed Thy plan: The kingdom of the Son of Man! Through all the past Thy truth we trace, Thy ceaseless care, Thy signal grace; O may our children’s children prove Thy sovereign, everlasting love.
