Context

2 Chronicles 24:18

Context
24:18 They abandoned the temple of the Lord God of their ancestors, 2  and worshiped 3  the Asherah poles and idols. Because of this sinful activity, God was angry with Judah and Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 33:3

Context
33:3 He rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he set up altars for the Baals and made Asherah poles. He bowed down to all the stars in the sky 4  and worshiped 5  them.

1 tn Heb “they could not be seen outside.”

2 tn Heb “fathers” (also in v. 24).

3 tn Heb “served.”

4 tn The phrase כָל צְבָא הֲַשָּׁמַיִם (khol tsÿvahashamayim), traditionally translated “all the host of heaven,” refers to the heavenly lights, including stars and planets. In 1 Kgs 22:19 these heavenly bodies are pictured as members of the Lord’s royal court or assembly, but many other texts view them as the illegitimate objects of pagan and Israelite worship.

5 tn Or “served.”
