2 Chronicles 30:7

Context
30:7 Don’t be like your fathers and brothers who were unfaithful to the Lord God of their ancestors, 6  provoking him to destroy them, 7  as you can see.

1 tn Heb “house.”

2 tn Or “covenant.”

3 tn Heb “which he made to David, just as he had promised to give him and his sons a lamp all the days.” Here “lamp” is metaphorical, symbolizing the Davidic dynasty.

4 tn Heb “she arose and she destroyed all the royal offspring.” The verb קוּם (qum, “arise”) is here used in an auxiliary sense to indicate that she embarked on a campaign to destroy the royal offspring. See M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 125.

5 tn Heb “house of Judah.”

6 tn Heb “fathers” (also in vv. 19, 22).

7 tn Heb “and he made them a devastation” (or, perhaps, “an object of horror”).
