2 Chronicles 2:10

Context
2:10 Look, I will pay your servants who cut the timber 20,000 kors 1  of ground wheat, 20,000 kors of barley, 120,000 gallons 2  of wine, and 120,000 gallons of olive oil.”

2 Chronicles 23:11

Context
23:11 Jehoiada and his sons led out the king’s son and placed on him the crown and the royal insignia. 3  They proclaimed him king and poured olive oil on his head. 4  They declared, “Long live the king!”

2 Chronicles 31:5

Context
31:5 When the edict was issued, 5  the Israelites freely contributed 6  the initial portion of their grain, wine, olive oil, honey, and all the produce of their fields. They brought a tenth of everything, which added up to a huge amount.

1 sn As a unit of dry measure a kor was roughly equivalent to six bushels (about 220 liters).

2 tn Heb “20,000 baths” (also a second time later in this verse). A bath was a liquid measure roughly equivalent to six gallons (about 22 liters), so this was a quantity of about 120,000 gallons (440,000 liters).

3 tn The Hebrew word עֵדוּת (’edut) normally means “witness” or “testimony.” Here it probably refers to some tangible symbol of kingship, perhaps a piece of jewelry such as an amulet or neck chain (see the discussion in M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings [AB], 128). Some suggest that a document is in view, perhaps a copy of the royal protocol or of the stipulations of the Davidic covenant (see HALOT 790-91 s.v.).

4 tn Or “they made him king and anointed him.”

5 tn Heb “and when the word spread out.”

6 tn Heb “the sons of Israel multiplied.”
