2 Chronicles 18:29

Context
18:29 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and then enter 1  the battle; but you wear your royal attire.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and they entered the battle.

2 Chronicles 26:16

Context

26:16 But once he became powerful, his pride destroyed him. 2  He disobeyed 3  the Lord his God. He entered the Lord’s temple to offer incense on the incense altar.

2 Chronicles 29:16

Context
29:16 The priests then entered the Lord’s temple to purify it; they brought out to the courtyard of the Lord’s temple every ceremonially unclean thing they discovered inside. 4  The Levites took them out to the Kidron Valley.

1 tn The Hebrew verbal forms could be imperatives (“Disguise yourself and enter”), but this would make no sense in light of the immediately following context. The forms are better interpreted as infinitives absolute functioning as cohortatives (see IBHS 594 §35.5.2a). Some prefer to emend the forms to imperfects.

2 tn Heb “his heart was high [i.e., proud] to destroy.”

3 tn Or “was unfaithful to.”

4 tn Heb “in the temple of the Lord.”
