2 Chronicles 12:13

Context
12:13 King Rehoboam solidified his rule in Jerusalem; 1  he 2  was forty-one years old when he became king and he ruled for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord chose from all the tribes of Israel to be his home. 3  Rehoboam’s 4  mother was an Ammonite named Naamah.

2 Chronicles 31:1

Context

31:1 When all this was over, the Israelites 5  who were in the cities of Judah went out and smashed the sacred pillars, cut down the Asherah poles, and demolished 6  all the high places and altars throughout Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh. 7  Then all the Israelites returned to their own homes in their cities. 8

1 tn Heb “and the king, Rehoboam, strengthened himself in Jerusalem and ruled.”

2 tn Heb “Rehoboam.” The recurrence of the proper name here is redundant in terms of contemporary English style, so the pronoun has been used in the translation instead.

3 tn Heb “the city where the Lord chose to place his name from all the tribes of Israel.”

4 tn Heb “his”; the referent has been specified in the translation for clarity.

5 tn Heb “all Israel.”

6 tn Or “tore down.”

7 tn Heb “the high places and the altars from all Judah and Benjamin and in Ephraim and in Manasseh until finished.”

8 tn Heb “and the sons of Israel returned, each to his possession to their cities.”
