2 Chronicles 10:10

Context
10:10 The young advisers with whom Rehoboam 1  had grown up said to him, “Say this to these people who have said to you, ‘Your father made us work hard, but now lighten our burden’ 2  – say this to them: ‘I am a lot harsher than my father! 3

2 Chronicles 21:13

Context
21:13 but have instead followed in the footsteps of the kings of Israel. You encouraged the people of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem to be unfaithful to the Lord, just as the family of Ahab does in Israel. 4  You also killed your brothers, members of your father’s family, 5  who were better than you.

2 Chronicles 29:34

Context
29:34 But there were not enough priests to skin all the animals, 6  so their brothers, the Levites, helped them until the work was finished and the priests could consecrate themselves. (The Levites had been more conscientious about consecrating themselves than the priests.) 7

2 Chronicles 32:7

Context
32:7 “Be strong and brave! Don’t be afraid and don’t panic 8  because of the king of Assyria and this huge army that is with him! We have with us one who is stronger than those who are with him. 9

1 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Rehoboam) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

2 tn Heb “Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter upon us.”

3 tn Heb “My little one is thicker than my father’s hips.” The referent of “my little one” is not clear. The traditional view is that it refers to the little finger (so NEB, NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT). As the following statement makes clear, Rehoboam’s point is that he is more harsh and demanding than his father.

4 tn Heb “and you walked in the way of the kings of Israel and caused Judah and the residents of Jerusalem to commit adultery, like the house of Ahab causes to commit adultery.”

5 tn Heb “the house of your father.”

6 tn Heb “the burnt sacrifices.”

7 tn Heb “for the Levites were more pure of heart to consecrate themselves than the priests.”

8 tn Or perhaps, “and don’t be discouraged.”

9 tn Heb “for with us [is] a greater [one] than with him.”
