• [1Th 5:2] Hearken To The Solemn Voice

  Hearken to the solemn voice, the awful midnight cry; Waiting souls, rejoice, rejoice, and see the Bridegroom nigh; Lo! He comes to keep His Word, light and joy His looks impart; Go ye forth to meet your Lord, and meet Him in your heart. Ye who faint beneath the load of sin, your heads lift up; See your great redeeming God, He comes, and bids you hope: In the midnight of your grief, Jesus doth His mourners cheer; Lo! He brings you sure relief; believe, and feel Him here. Ye whose loins are girt, stand forth! Whose lamps are burning bright, Worthy, in your Savior’s worth, to walk with Him in white: Jesus bids your hearts be clean, bids you all His promise prove; Jesus comes to cast out sin, and perfect you in love. Wait we all in patient hope, till Christ, the Judge, shall come, We shall soon be all caught up to meet the general doom: In an hour to us unknown, as a thief in deepest night, Christ shall suddenly come down, with all His saints in light. Happy he whom Christ shall find watching to see Him come; Him the Judge of all mankind shall bear triumphant home: Who can answer to His Word? Which of you dares meet His day? “Rise, and come to judgment!”—Lord, we rise, and come away.

  Father, who the light this day Out of darkness didst create, Shine upon us now, we pray, While within Thy courts we wait. Wean us from the works of night, Make us children of the light. Savior, who this day didst break The dark prison of the tomb, Bid our slumbering souls awake, Shine through all their sin and gloom. Let us, from our bonds set free, Rise from sin and live to Thee. Blessèd Spirit, Comforter, Sent this day from Christ on high, Lord, on us Thy gifts confer, Cleanse, illumine, sanctify. All Thy fullness shed abroad; Lead us to the truth of God.

  Hark! ’tis the watchman’s cry, “Wake, brethren, wake!” Jesus our Lord is nigh; Wake, brethren, wake! Sleep is for sons of night; Ye are children of the light, Yours is the glory bright; Wake, brethren, wake! Call to each waking band, “Watch, brethren, watch!” Clear is our Lord’s command; Watch, brethren, watch! Be ye as men that wait Always at the Master’s gate, E’en though He tarry late; Watch, brethren, watch! Heed we the steward’s call, “Work, brethren, work!” There’s room enough for all; Work, brethren, work! This vineyard of the Lord Constant labor will afford; Yours is a sure reward; Work, brethren, work! Hear we the Shepherd’s voice, “Pray, brethren, pray!” Would ye His heart rejoice? Pray, brethren, pray! Sin calls for constant fear, Weakness needs the Strong One near Long as ye struggle here; Pray, brethren, pray! Now sound the final chord, “Praise, brethren, praise!” Thrice holy is our Lord; Praise, brethren, praise! What more befits the tongues Soon to lead the angels’ songs, While Heav’n the note prolongs, Praise, brethren, praise!
