1 Samuel 6:9

Context
6:9 But keep an eye on it. If it should go up by the way of its own border to Beth Shemesh, then he has brought this great calamity on us. But if that is not the case, then we will know that it was not his hand that struck us; rather, it just happened to us by accident.”

1 Samuel 11:7

Then he sent the pieces throughout the territory of Israel by the hand of messengers, who said, “Whoever does not go out after Saul and after Samuel should expect this to be done to his oxen!” Then the terror of the Lord fell on the people, and they went out as one army. 2

1 Samuel 14:12

Context
14:12 Then the men of the garrison said to Jonathan and his armor bearer, “Come on up to us so we can teach you a thing or two!” 3  Then Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come up behind me, for the Lord has given 4  them into the hand of Israel!”

1 tn Heb “yoke.”

2 tn Heb “like one man.”

3 tn Heb “a thing.”

4 tn The perfect verbal form is used rhetorically here to express Jonathan’s certitude. As far as he is concerned, the victory is as good as won and can be described as such.
