1 Samuel 28:23

Context

28:23 But he refused, saying, “I won’t eat!” Both his servants and the woman urged 1  him to eat, so he gave in. 2  He got up from the ground and sat down on the bed.

1 Samuel 20:29

Context
20:29 He said, ‘Permit me to go, 3  for we are having a family sacrifice in the city, and my brother urged 4  me to be there. So now, if I have found favor with you, let me go 5  to see my brothers.’ For that reason he has not come to the king’s table.”

1 tc The translation follows many medieval Hebrew mss in reading וַיִּפְצְרוּ (vayyiftseru, “and they pressed”; from the root פצר, psr) rather than the MT’s וַיִּפְרְצוּ (vayyifretsu, “and they broke forth”; from the root פרצ, prs).

2 tn Heb “he listened to their voice.”

3 tn Heb “send me.”

4 tn Heb “commanded.”

5 tn Heb “be released [from duty].”
