11:11 The next day Saul placed the people in three groups. They went to the Ammonite camp during the morning watch and struck them¹ down until the hottest part of the day. The survivors scattered; no two of them remained together.

Context

13:15 Then Samuel set out and went up from Gilgal² to Gibeah in the territory of Benjamin.³ Saul mustered the army that remained with him; there were about six hundred men.

1 Samuel 30:24

30:24 Who will listen to you in this matter? The portion of the one who went down into the battle will be the same as the portion of the one who remained with the equipment! Let their portions be the same!”

¹tn Heb “Ammon.” By metonymy the name “Ammon” is used collectively for the soldiers in the Ammonite army.

²tc The LXX and two Old Latin mss include the following words here: “on his way. And the rest of the people went up after Saul to meet the warring army. When they arrived from Gilgal….”

³tn Heb “at Gibeah of Benjamin.” The words “in the territory” are supplied in the translation for clarity (likewise in the following verse).
