  As shadows cast by cloud and sun Flit o’er the summer grass, So, in Thy sight, Almighty One, Earth’s generations pass. And as the years, an endless host, Come swiftly pressing on, The brightest names that earth can boast Just glisten and are gone. Yet doth the star of Bethlehem shed A luster pure and sweet; And still it leads, as once it led, To the Messiah’s feet. O Father, may that holy star Grow every year more bright, And send its glorious beams afar To fill the world with light.

  I was straying when Christ found me In the night so dark and cold; Tenderly His arm went round me, And He bore me to His fold. • [1Pe 5:8] I Walk In Danger All The Way

  I walk in danger all the way, The thought shall never leave me That Satan, who has marked his prey, Is plotting to deceive me. This foe with hidden snares May seize me unawares If e’er I fail to watch and pray. I walk in danger all the way. I pass through trials all the way, With sin and ills contending; In patience I must bear each day The cross of God’s own sending. Oft in adversity I know not where to flee; When storms of woe my soul dismay, I pass through trials all the way. Death doth pursue me all the way, Nowhere I rest securely; He comes by night, he comes by day, And takes his prey most surely. A failing breath, and I In death’s strong grasp may lie To face eternity for aye. Death doth pursue me all the way. I walk with angels all the way, They shield me and befriend me; All Satan’s power is held at bay When heav’nly hosts attend me; They are my sure defense, All fear and sorrow, hence! Unharmed by foes, do what they may, I walk with angels all the way. I walk with Jesus all the way, His guidance never fails me; Within His wounds I find a stay When Satan’s power assails me; And by His footsteps led, My path I safely tread. In spite of ills that threaten may I walk with Jesus all the way. My walk is heavenward all the way; Await, my soul, the morrow, When thou shalt find release for aye From all thy sin and sorrow. All worldly pomp, begone! To Heaven I now press on. For all the world I would not stay; My walk is heavenward all the way.

  My soul, be on thy guard; Ten thousand foes arise; The hosts of sin are pressing hard To draw thee from the skies. O watch, and fight, and pray; The battle ne’er give o’er; Renew it boldly every day, And help divine implore. Ne’er think the victory won, Nor lay thine armor down; The work of faith will not be done, Till thou obtain the crown. Fight on, my soul, till death Shall bring thee to thy God; He’ll take thee, at thy parting breath, To His divine abode.
