8:36 then listen from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Certainly 1  you will then teach them the right way to live 2  and send rain on your land that you have given your people to possess. 3

Elijah Meets the King’s Servant

18:1 Some time later, in the third year of the famine, the Lord told Elijah, 4  “Go, make an appearance before Ahab, so I may send rain on the surface of the ground.”

1 Kings 18:19

18:19 Now send out messengers 5  and assemble all Israel before me at Mount Carmel, as well as the 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah whom Jezebel supports. 6 

1 Kings 20:6

20:6 But now at this time tomorrow I will send my servants to you and they will search through your palace and your servants’ houses. They will carry away all your valuables.” 7 

1 tn The translation understands כִּי (ki) in an emphatic or asseverative sense.

2 tn Heb “the good way in which they should walk.”

3 tn Or “for an inheritance.”

4 tn Heb “the word of the Lord came to Elijah.”

5 tn The word “messengers” is supplied in the translation both here and in v. 20 for clarification.

6 tn Heb “who eat at the table of Jezebel.”

7 tn Heb “all that is desirable to your eyes they will put in their hand and take.”
