9:25 Three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings 4  on the altar he had built for the Lord, burning incense along with them before the Lord. He made the temple his official worship place. 5

10:22 Along with Hiram’s fleet, the king had a fleet of large merchant ships 6  that sailed the sea. Once every three years the fleet 7  came into port with cargoes of 8  gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks. 9

20:1 Now King Ben Hadad of Syria assembled all his army, along with thirty-two other kings with their horses and chariots. He marched against Samaria 10  and besieged and attacked it. 11 

1 tn Heb “builders.”

2 tn Heb “the Gebalites.” The reading is problematic and some emend to a verb form meaning, “set the borders.”

3 tc The LXX includes the words “for three years.”

4 tn Or “tokens of peace”; NIV, TEV “fellowship offerings.”

5 tn Heb “and he made complete the house.”

6 tn Heb “a fleet of Tarshish [ships].” This probably refers to large ships either made in or capable of traveling to the distant western port of Tarshish.

7 tn Heb “the fleet of Tarshish [ships].”

8 tn Heb “came carrying.”

9 tn The meaning of this word is unclear. Some suggest “baboons.”
