11:29 At that time, when Jeroboam had left Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite met him on the road; the two of them were alone in the open country. Ahijah 1  was wearing a brand new robe,

13:3 That day he also announced 2  a sign, “This is the sign the Lord has predetermined: 3  The altar will be split open and the ashes 4  on it will fall to the ground.” 5

13:5 The altar split open and the ashes 6  fell from the altar to the ground, 7  in fulfillment of the sign the prophet had announced with the Lord’s authority. 8 

1 tn The Hebrew text has simply “he,” making it a bit unclear whether Jeroboam or Ahijah is the subject, but in the Hebrew word order Ahijah is the nearer antecedent, and this is followed by the present translation.
