Spiritual Gifts

12:1 With regard to spiritual gifts, 4  brothers and sisters, 5  I do not want you to be uninformed. 6

1 tn Grk “does a brother sue a brother,” but see the note on the word “Christian” in 5:11.

2 tn Grk “brothers.” The Greek term “brother” literally refers to family relationships, but here it is used in a broader sense to connote familial relationships within the family of God (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. ἀδελφός 2.a). See also the note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:10.

3 tn Grk “by the destroyer.” BDAG 703 s.v. ὀλοθρευτῆς mentions the corresponding OT references and notes, “the one meant is the destroying angel as the one who carries out the divine sentence of punishment, or perh. Satan.”

sn This incident is recorded in Num 16:41-50.

4 tn Grk “spiritual things.”

5 tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:10.

6 tn Grk “ignorant.”
