1 Corinthians 1:10

Context
Divisions in the Church

1:10 I urge you, brothers and sisters, 1  by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to agree together, 2  to end your divisions, 3  and to be united by the same mind and purpose. 4

1 Corinthians 1:26

Context

1:26 Think about the circumstances of your call, 5  brothers and sisters. 6  Not many were wise by human standards, 7  not many were powerful, not many were born to a privileged position. 8

1 Corinthians 7:35

Context
7:35 I am saying this for your benefit, not to place a limitation on you, but so that without distraction you may give notable and constant service to the Lord.

1 Corinthians 14:9

Context
14:9 It is the same for you. If you do not speak clearly with your tongue, how will anyone know what is being said? For you will be speaking into the air.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Context
15:58 So then, dear brothers and sisters, 9  be firm. Do not be moved! Always be outstanding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

1 tn Grk “brothers,” but the Greek word may be used for “brothers and sisters” or “fellow Christians” as here (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. ἀδελφός 1, where considerable nonbiblical evidence for the plural ἀδελφοί [adelfoi] meaning “brothers and sisters” is cited).

2 tn Grk “that you all say the same thing.”

3 tn Grk “that there be no divisions among you.”

4 tn Grk “that you be united in/by the same mind and in/by the same purpose.”

5 tn Grk “Think about your calling.” “Calling” in Paul’s writings usually refers to God’s work of drawing people to faith in Christ. The following verses show that “calling” here stands by metonymy for their circumstances when they became Christians, leading to the translation “the circumstances of your call.”

6 tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:10.

7 tn Grk “according to the flesh.”

8 tn The Greek word ευγενής (eugenh") refers to the status of being born into nobility, wealth, or power with an emphasis on the privileges and benefits that come with that position.

9 tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:10.
