2:23 (Geshur and Aram captured the towns of Jair,¹ along with Kenath and its sixty surrounding towns.) All these were descendants of Makir, the father of Gilead.

11:8 He built up the city around it, from the terrace to the surrounding walls;² Joab restored the rest of the city.

¹tn Or “Havvoth Jair” (NIV, NRSV). Some translations do not translate the phrase (“havvoth” = “the towns of”), but treat it as part of the place name.

²tn Heb “to that which surrounds.” On the referent here as “the surrounding walls,” see HALOT 740 s.v. סָבִיב.
