Context

2:21 Later 1  Hezron had sexual relations with 2  the daughter of Makir, the father of Gilead. (He had married 3  her when he was sixty years old.) She bore him Segub.

7:15 Now Makir married a wife from the Huppites and Shuppites. 4  (His sister’s name was Maacah.)

Zelophehad was Manasseh’s second son; 5  he had only daughters.

1 sn This means “later” in relation to the births of the three sons (Jerahmeel, Ram and Caleb) mentioned in v. 9.

2 tn Heb “Hezron went to.”

3 tn Heb “he took,” referring to taking in marriage.

4 tn Some translations treat the terms שֻׁפִּים (shuppim) and חֻפִּים (khuppim) as proper names of individuals (“Huppim” and “Shuppim”), but others consider these forms to be plurals and refer to tribal or clan names.

5 tn Heb “and the name of the second was Zelophehad.”
