1 Chronicles 12:38

Context

12:38 All these men were warriors who were ready to march. 1  They came to Hebron to make David king over all Israel by acclamation; 2  all the rest of the Israelites also were in agreement that David should become king. 3

1 Chronicles 22:9

Context
22:9 Look, you will have a son, who will be a peaceful man. 4  I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. 5  Indeed, Solomon 6  will be his name; I will give Israel peace and quiet during his reign. 7

1 tc Heb “all these [were] men of war, helpers of the battle line.” The present translation assumes an emendation of עֹדְרֵי (’odÿrey, “helpers of”) to עֹרְכֵי, (’orÿkhey, “prepared for”).

2 tn Heb “with a complete heart they came to Hebron to make David king over all Israel.”

3 tn Heb “and also all the rest of Israel [was of] one mind to make David king.”

4 tn Heb “man of rest.”

5 tn Heb “his enemies all around.”

6 sn The name Solomon (שְׁלֹמֹה, shÿlomoh) sounds like (and may be derived from) the Hebrew word for “peace” (שָׁלוֹם, shalom).

7 tn Heb “in his days.”
