The Seven Seals

6:1 I looked on when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a thunderous voice, “Come!”

Revelation 7:10

7:10 They were shouting out in a loud voice,

“Salvation belongs to our God,

to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

13:11 Then I saw another beast coming up from the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but was speaking like a dragon.

Revelation 19:7

19:7 Let us rejoice and exult

and give him glory,

because the wedding celebration of the Lamb has come,

and his bride has made herself ready.

Revelation 21:14

21:14 The 10  wall of the city has twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Revelation 21:22-23

21:22 Now 11  I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God – the All-Powerful 12  – and the Lamb are its temple. 21:23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God lights it up, and its lamp is the Lamb.

22:1 Then 13  the angel 14  showed me the river of the water of life – water as clear as crystal – pouring out 15  from the throne of God and of the Lamb,

Revelation 22:3

22:3 And there will no longer be any curse, 16  and the throne of God and the Lamb will be in the city. 17  His 18  servants 19  will worship 20  him,

tn Grk “saying like a voice [or sound] of thunder.”

tc The addition of “and see” (καὶ ἴδε or καὶ βλέπε [kai ide or kai blepe]) to “come” (ἔρχου, ercou) in 6:1, 3-5, 7 is a gloss directed to John, i.e., “come and look at the seals and the horsemen!” But the command ἔρχου is better interpreted as directed to each of the horsemen. The shorter reading also has the support of the better witnesses.

tn The dative here has been translated as a dative of possession.

tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence within the narrative.

sn This second beast is identified in Rev 16:13 as “the false prophet.”

tn Grk “and it had,” a continuation of the preceding sentence. On the use of the pronoun “he” to refer to the second beast, see the note on the word “It” in 13:1.

tn Or perhaps, “like a ram.” Here L&N 4.25 states, “In the one context in the NT, namely, Re 13:11, in which ἀρνίον refers literally to a sheep, it is used in a phrase referring to the horns of an ἀρνίον. In such a context the reference is undoubtedly to a ‘ram,’ that is to say, the adult male of sheep.” In spite of this most translations render the word “lamb” here to maintain the connection between this false lamb and the true Lamb of the Book of Revelation, Jesus Christ.

tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “but” to indicate the contrast present in this context.

tn This verb and the next two verbs are hortatory subjunctives (giving exhortations).
