Psalms 60:3

60:3 You have made your people experience hard times;

you have made us drink intoxicating wine.

Psalms 114:8

114:8 who turned a rock into a pool of water,

a hard rock into springs of water!

Psalms 128:2

128:2 You will eat what you worked so hard to grow.

You will be blessed and secure.

tn Heb “you have caused your people to see [what is] hard.”

tn Heb “wine of staggering,” that is, intoxicating wine that makes one stagger in drunkenness. Intoxicating wine is here an image of divine judgment that makes its victims stagger like drunkards. See Isa 51:17-23.

sn In v. 8 the psalmist recalls the event(s) recorded in Exod 17:6 and/or Num 20:11 (see also Deut 8:15 and Ps 78:15-16, 20).

tn The psalmist addresses the representative God-fearing man, as indicated by the references to “your wife” (v. 3) and “the man” (v. 4), as well as the second masculine singular pronominal and verbal forms in vv. 2-6.

tn Heb “the work of your hands, indeed you will eat.”

tn Heb “how blessed you [will be] and it will be good for you.”
