35:17 O Lord, how long are you going to just stand there and watch this? 1
Rescue 2 me 3 from their destructive attacks;
guard my life 4 from the young lions!
For the music director; a psalm of David.
64:1 Listen to me, 6 O God, as I offer my lament!
Protect 7 my life from the enemy’s terrifying attacks. 8
1 tn Heb “O Lord, how long will you see?”
2 tn Heb “bring back, restore.”
3 tn Or “my life.”
4 tn Heb “my only one.” The psalmist may mean that his life is precious, or that he feels isolated and alone (see Ps 22:20). The verb “guard” is supplied in the translation, because the verb “rescue” is understood by ellipsis (see the previous line).
5 sn Psalm 64. The psalmist asks God to protect him from his dangerous enemies and then confidently affirms that God will destroy his enemies and demonstrate his justice in the sight of all observers.
6 tn Heb “my voice.”
7 tn The imperfect verbal form is used here to express the psalmist’s request.
8 tn Heb “from the terror of [the] enemy.” “Terror” is used here metonymically for the enemy’s attacks that produce fear because they threaten the psalmist’s life.
