Matthew 1:22

1:22 This all happened so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled:

Matthew 7:12

7:12 In everything, treat others as you would want them to treat you, for this fulfills the law and the prophets.

Matthew 12:7

12:7 If you had known what this means: ‘I want mercy and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.

Matthew 20:10

20:10 And when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more. But each one also received the standard wage.

Matthew 22:3

22:3 He sent his slaves to summon those who had been invited to the banquet, but they would not come.

Matthew 26:25

26:25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” Jesus replied, “You have said it yourself.”

Matthew 27:34

27:34 and offered Jesus 10  wine mixed with gall to drink. 11  But after tasting it, he would not drink it.

tn Grk “Therefore in.” Here οὖν (oun) has not been translated.

tn This is a generic use of ἄνθρωπος (anqrwpo"), referring to both males and females.

sn Jesus’ teaching as reflected in the phrase treat others as you would want them to treat you, known generally as the Golden Rule, is not completely unique in the ancient world, but here it is stated in its most emphatic, selfless form.

tn Grk “is.”

tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

sn A quotation from Hos 6:6 (see also Matt 9:13).

tn See the note on the word “slave” in 8:9.

tn Grk “answering, Judas.” This is somewhat redundant and has been simplified in the translation. Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to reflect the sequence of events in the narrative.

tn Grk “he”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

10 tn Grk “him”; the referent (Jesus) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

11 sn It is difficult to say for certain who gave Jesus this drink of wine mixed with gall (e.g., the executioner, or perhaps women from Jerusalem). In any case, whoever gave it to him most likely did so in order to relieve his pain, but Jesus was unwilling to take it.
