Mark 4:39

4:39 So 1  he got up and rebuked 2  the wind, and said to the sea, 3  “Be quiet! Calm down!” Then 4  the wind stopped, and it was dead calm.

Mark 9:26

9:26 It shrieked, threw him into terrible convulsions, and came out. The boy 5  looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He is dead!”

Mark 12:25

12:25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels 6  in heaven.

1 tn Grk “And.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the implied result of previous action(s) in the narrative.

3 sn Who has authority over the seas and winds is discussed in the OT: Ps 104:3; 135:7; 107:23-30. When Jesus rebuked the wind and the sea he was making a statement about who he was.

4 tn Grk “And.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

5 tn Grk “he”; the referent (the boy) has been specified in the translation for clarity. Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was started here in the translation.

6 sn Angels do not die, nor do they eat according to Jewish tradition (1 En. 15:6; 51:4; Wis 5:5; 2 Bar. 51:10; 1QH 3.21-23).
