The Testimony of Anna

2:36 There was also a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old, ¹  having been married to her husband for seven years until his death.

Luke 23:22

23:22 A third time he said to them, “Why? What wrong has he done? I have found him guilty ²  of no crime deserving death. ³  I will therefore flog ⁴  him and release him.”

¹ tn Her age is emphasized by the Greek phrase here, “she was very old in her many days.”

² tn Grk “no cause of death I found in him.”

³ sn The refrain of innocence comes once again. Pilate tried to bring some sense of justice, believing Jesus had committed no crime deserving death.
