Jeremiah 17:12

Jeremiah Appeals to the Lord for Vindication

17:12 Then I said,

Lord, from the very beginning

you have been seated on your glorious throne on high.

You are the place where we can find refuge.

Jeremiah 29:13

29:13 When you seek me in prayer and worship, you will find me available to you. If you seek me with all your heart and soul,

Jeremiah 39:12

39:12 “Find Jeremiah and look out for him. Do not do anything to harm him, but do with him whatever he tells you.”

tn The words, “Then I said” are not in the text. They are supplied in the translation for clarity to show the shift in speaker.

sn The Lord is no longer threatening judgment but is being addressed. For a similar doxological interruption compare Jer 16:19-20.

tn Or “If you wholeheartedly seek me”; Heb “You will seek me and find [me] because you will seek me with all your heart.” The translation attempts to reflect the theological nuances of “seeking” and “finding” and the psychological significance of “heart” which refers more to intellectual and volitional concerns in the OT than to emotional ones.

tn Heb “Get [or fetch] him.” The referent is supplied for clarity.

tn Or “take care of him”; Heb “set your eyes on him.” For the meaning of this idiom see BDB 963 s.v. שִׂים 2.c and compare 24:6 where the phrase “for good” is added.

tn Heb “Don’t do anything evil [= harmful] to him.”
