34:22 Only on this one condition will these men consent to live with us and become one people: They demand 1  that every male among us be circumcised just as they are circumcised.

Genesis 17:10

17:10 This is my requirement that you and your descendants after you must keep: 2  Every male among you must be circumcised. 3 

Genesis 21:4

21:4 When his son Isaac was eight days old, 4  Abraham circumcised him just as God had commanded him to do. 5 

Genesis 34:17

34:17 But if you do not agree to our terms 6  by being circumcised, then we will take 7  our sister 8  and depart.”

5 sn Just as God had commanded him to do. With the birth of the promised child, Abraham obeyed the Lord by both naming (Gen 17:19) and circumcising Isaac (17:12).

7 tn The perfect verbal form with the vav (ו) consecutive introduces the apodosis of the conditional sentence.

8 tn Heb “daughter.” Jacob’s sons call Dinah their daughter, even though she was their sister (see v. 8). This has been translated as “sister” for clarity.
