tn Heb “the Lord.” Since the Lord is speaking, it is preferable for clarity to supply the first person pronoun in the translation.

tn Heb “swore” (so NAB, NIV, NRSV, NLT). This refers to God’s promise, made by solemn oath, to give the patriarchs the land.

tn Heb “fathers” (also in vv. 11, 21, 35).

tn Heb “their seed after them.”

tn Heb “the Lord your God.” The pronoun (“he”) has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons, to avoid repetition.

tn Or “has given you the land” (cf. NAB, NIV, NRSV).

tn Heb “the Lord your God.” See note on “he” in 4:3.

tn Heb “he will not drop you,” i.e., “will not abandon you” (cf. NAB, NIV, NRSV, NLT).

14 tn Heb “commanding” (so NASB). For stylistic reasons, to avoid redundancy, “giving” has been used in the translation (likewise in v. 11).

15 tn Heb “multiply” (so KJV, NASB, NLT); NIV, NRSV “increase.”

22 tn In the Hebrew text these words are in the form of a brief quotation: “entice you secretly saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods.’”
